The timely launch of the newly registered political opposition party, the People's Party, saw hundreds of supporters clad in orange come out to the Blantyre township of Ndirande on August 27, 2011.

The launch was attended by the party's founder and unofficial leader, Right Honorable Joyce Banda, who currently holds the position of Vice President within the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
